Bocas del Toro is one
of Panama's most well known areas within
Panama as well as to the outside world.
The area has been home to 12 survivor
series from countries all around the
world. The Archipelago Bocas del Toro
is situated on the Northern Caribbean
coast of Panama and borders the Limon
county of Costa Rica.
Many have dreamed of
living on islands with white sand, tropical
palm trees and crystal clear turquoise
waters. Well on the islands of Bocas
del Toro this is a reality as there
are lots of smaller Island all around
the Archipelago's that are uninhabited
and ready for a long awaited tenant.
There are tropical reefs all over the
Islands and with all this combined makes
the Bocas del Toro area one of the hottest
areas to live and to visit in Panama.

One of the great things
about the area is that while it is very
popular it also has kept itself pristine.
There are marine parks all around the
Islands and the Lonely Planet calls
the area "a biologists fantasy"
due to all the preserves. You will also
find a high level of people in the area
that speak English as well as the local
creole or pigeon English. The main island
of Isla Colon offers great nightlife,
restaurants and friendly people.
Many people always ask
"are there hurricanes in Panama'?
Well Panama is not in the hurricane
path and the shores of Bocas del Toro
have never been touched by more than
a quick breeze. The weather in the area
is fabulous for the majority of the
year so you can see why with the low
prices while real estate and property
in the area is so sort after!!

The history behind Bocas
del Toro starts in 1502 when Christopher
Columbus came across the Archipelago's.
He stopped at Carinero Island, named
by him to repair his boats and rest.
then in the late 1800 English Sailors
or Pirates as the Panamanians call them
used the area for hiding as it was a
perfect safe haven. Then when the influx
of Jamaicans arrived in the early 1900's
it became a dynamic commercial zone
with the trading of Cocoa and Bananas.
These Jamaican's are the reason for
the English that is spoken in Bocas
del Toro. By the 1900's the United Fruit
Company had its HQ in Bocas and boated
an impressive 25,000 inhabitants. However
all this came to an end in the 1920's
when a Banana blight put an end to this
thriving town. If you look closely when
on Isla Colon you can see the remains
of some of the buildings and the park.
