Boquete and The Chiriqui Province

The Province of Chriqui is the most north - western province of Panama situated by the border with Costa Rica on the Pacific side of Panama. The province has a rather highland mystical feel to it where eternal spring and bright flowers are everywhere. The province offers visitors a diverse variety of views and terrain, from highlands, volcanoes to white sanded beaches. With such diverse terrain the Province offers visitors numerous activities to partake in, you can walk the Volcan Baru, mountain climb, hike through the highlands or just swim in the warm Pacific Ocean. What ever you are looking for the Province offers it all.

You will find that the highland architecture is very similar to that of Switzerland. The homes and Chalets yodel Swiss construction and the greenness of the countryside adds to this description. The reason for this is due to Swiss farmers arriving years ago, even before the roads allowed transportation to this area. Following the Swiss were Yugoslav farmers.

Bocas del Toro Dolphins

For those interested in any of the following, Chiriqui is the place to find them: flower growing, trout fishing, medicinal springs, alpine farms, coffee, beer tasting, orange growing, cattle ranches, thoroughbred farms, hunting, bird watching, and white water rafting.

One of the main attractions of the Chiriqui Province is the vast amount of bird species, over 1,000 to be correct, with the most famous being the Quetzal who has claimed the province as it's most Southerly home. The Guayami Indians are Panama's most well known tribe after the Kuna Indians of the San Blas. You will be able to meet the Indians at Tolé just off the Pan American Highway.

David: The City of David is the Capital of the province and lies on a coastal plain between the beaches and the mountains. The town derived from a market town due the agriculture in the area and has a frontier feel to it. If you have the pleasure of being in David on a Sunday we would highly suggest a Rodeo ride!!!

Chriqui Beaches: The Beaches of Chiriqui are of some of the best in Panama with beautiful Pacific Ocean hitting white golden sand. The Las Olas Resort at La Barqueta is only 1 hours drive from David and offers some great facilities to relax at.

Boquete: The town of Boquete is one of Chiriqui's most famous and beautiful towns. Situated on the Eastern slope of the Volcano Baru the town offers guests a peaceful and tranquil highland vibe. Boquete is famous for some of Panama's best white water rafting on the Rio Chiriqui Viejo.

In January the town of Boquete hosts the Flower and Coffee Fair where people from all over the world travel to see the fairground on the river banks and the fabulous tropical flowers. Other events to note for flower lovers is the Orchid Show in April!!! As the town is situated near the Volcan Baru the tours offered in the area are very diverse. One of the top attractions is the Caldera Hot Springs, where you can relax and bathe in the naturally heated mineral pools.

The area of Boquete has recently been voted one of the top 4 places to retire in the world due to its wonderful climate, fantastic views and altogether cheap land prices.

Hotels that are recommended in the area can be found in the hotels section and a few are listed here: Los Establos, Panamonte, Isla Secas and Las Olas.
